DRESS CODE & PERSONAL ITEMSStudents are expected to be appropriately dressed at all times. Students found to be inappropriately attired will be sent home to change clothes or will be detained in In-School Suspension until someone brings appropriate clothing. These guidelines will help students and parents in determining appropriate attire: The administration of R.J. Reynolds High School has the authority to exercise their discretion and judgment in matters pertaining to student attire. For additional dress-code standards, see Policy 5131, Article V, Section C, in the R.J. Reynolds High School Student Handbook. Electronic Devices Students may not possess or use portable radios, tape recorders, tape/CD/DVD players, i-Pods, or other similar electronic equipment in school during regular school hours except as approved by the principal or his designee. Students may possess a cell phone, pager or digital camera but shall not use it during regular school hours except as approved by the principal or his designee. "Regular school hours" means from the beginning to the end of the instructional day, from 8:55 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. These devices must be turned off during the school day and are subject to confiscation if not. Beginning with the 2007-08 school year, students will be allowed to use their cell phones during their lunch periods. As a result, consequences for the improper use of a cell phone will become harsher. The following guidelines should be remembered as they relate to the use of cell phones: At the beginning of the school year, each student will have an opportunity to request a lock and locker. No one is to use any locker other than the one assigned to them or any lock other than the one issued by R.J. Reynolds High School without a teacher's permission. Unathorized locks will be immediately removed by the administration. Lockers are considered school property and are subject to search at any time. Lockers should remain locked at all times and combinations should not be shared with other students. Items found in lockers will be presumed to be the property of the student who is assigned the locker. Students are allowed to go to their lockers before school, during class change and after school only. Lockers are off limits during lunch. For additional policies regarding lockers, please see the R.J. Reynolds High School Student Handbook. |
